about

You wont be surprised to learn that many of the folk who work in the Oxfam Music Shop on Byres Road, Glasgow, play music. However, you might be surprised at how talented a bunch they are!

I first had the idea for this when we celebrated the shop's 20th birthday earlier in the year. I really had no idea if anyone would be willing to participate and was thrilled to find that people weren't just willing, they were enthusiastic! So much so that we also hatched a plan to make a collaborative recording with as many of us as possible squeezed into the already too full basement. This happened, and despite my refusal to make any plans of what we would play, we managed to record some very song shaped pieces of music.

The tracks submitted are very varied. From straight to phone acoustic recordings and full band studio recordings. From minimalist synth to angsty punk rock. But all bursting with talent and passion.

This compilation is a collection of tracks, many otherwise unreleased, kindly offered up by 17 of the 'Basement Dwellers' - those who work in the basement (and behind the till) in our little charity music shop and some exerts of the recordings made at our basement jam.

All profits from the sale of this album will be donated to Oxfam to support the wonderful work they do around the world.
